Hulilau
Huli.lau, n. [Hawaiian Dictionary (Hawaiian)] – A variety of large gourd or calabash, used as a receptacle for tapa or garments, or for food offerings. Fig., a woman, mother, wife.
In 2022, we launched a mākeke inviting all wāhine-owned businesses in Hawai’i to join the FoundHer community. We named this mākeke “Hulilau”, in honor of all the women and mothers who have so much to offer on top of the responsibilities carried in their ‘ohana and communities.
Our first two Hulilau markets were held at SALT at Our Kaka’ako and Kahala Mall, where we hosted 32 wāhine-owned businesses, live music, and family-friendly shopping and activities!
